George B. Handley’s Living Faith lecture is now available to watch online, “Caring for Nature, Caring for Ourselves”

In these difficult times, human connection is both dangerous and perhaps more vital than ever. While we can’t meet in person right now, the Maxwell Institute is excited to invite you to a live online lecture featuring BYU humanities professor George Handley. He believes nature is both a reminder of our mortality and a gift given to us by a loving Creator and Savior. In this live online lecture, he’ll explore how the experience of suffering motivates and shapes our relationship to the natural world and why the creation’s healing qualities should inspire us to take better care of all of life.

About the Speaker

George B. Handley is a Professor of Interdisciplinary Humanities and Associate Director of the Faculty Center at BYU. He has also served as Associate Dean in the College of Humanities and as Department Chair of Comparative Arts and Letters. His research focuses on the intersection between literature, religion, and the environment and his previous books include New World Poetics, If Truth Were a Child, and the environmental memoir Home Waters. He is currently serving as a City Council Member in Provo.
