Updates on the state of the Journal of Book of Mormon Studies...

A different title? A new editor? Bringing in an advisory board? How about all three...

But first, the Maxwell Institute wishes to express gratitude to Paul Y. Hoskisson for his hard work as editor of the Journal of Book of Mormon and Other Restoration Scripture. Having just completed volume 22/1, he's earnestly wrapping up issue 22/2, his final issue as editor. Hoskisson has returned to full-time teaching in Brigham Young University's department of ancient scripture, while the Journal presses forward.

Brian M. Hauglid, newly named director of our Willes Center for Book of Mormon Studies, will assume editorship of the Journal in 2014. Under Hauglid, the next issue resumes the title: Journal of Book of Mormon Studies (back by popular demand).* Hauglid has appointed Joseph M. Spencer and Mark A. Wright as associate editors. Wright earned a PhD in anthropology at UC Riverside and currently teaches in the ancient scripture department at BYU. Spencer is a PhD candidate in philosophy at the University of New Mexico. He has published several books on the Book of Mormon including An Other Testament, soon to be republished by the Maxwell Institute. Hauglid, Wright, and Spencer are in the process of putting together an advisory board for the Journal.

More details about the submission process are forthcoming. In the meantime, the editors are currently accepting submissions at hauglid@byu.edu or maxwell_institute@byu.edu.
