New Full-Time Faculty Fellow for Fall 2025

BYU’s Academic Vice President Justin Collings has appointed Steven Harper as a Maxwell Institute Faculty Fellow, filling one of the Institute’s two-year rotating fellowships. His term will begin in September 2025.

Dr. Harper is a professor of Church History and Doctrine at Brigham Young University and a historian of Latter-day Saint scripture and thought. He has served as editor-in-chief of BYU Studies since 2019. Harper is the author of several works, including Wrestling with the Restoration: Why This Church Matters, published by Deseret Book in 2024, and First Vision: Memory and Mormon Origins, published by Oxford University Press in 2019.

He will contribute to the Maxwell Institute’s discipleship initiative with work focused on the Doctrine and Covenants. We are pleased to welcome Dr. Steven Harper to the Maxwell Institute.
