  • First (and so far only) North American Institution to partner with the Vatican Library in manuscript digitizing projects.
  • As the Syriac Christians are being driven from their homelands in the Middle East, these kinds of projects are preserving their heritage for generations.
  • All of the manuscripts acquired by Vatican from the Ancient library of Deir al-Surian (see this note by Carl: http://publications.mi.byu.edu/fullscreen/?pub=1372&index=4)
  • Contents range from Homilies, hymns, commentaries, philosophical texts, liturgical texts, biblical texts.
  • Age: see blog post.
  • Where next: full catalogue description (like this one -  http://cpart.mi.byu.edu/home/vs/catalog/vbs-128/)
  • Once we have raised sufficient funds the Vatican are eager for us to do two more phases of about 80 manuscripts each.
