Remembering Thomas F. Rogers

brightspotcdn.byu.jpg

It is with sadness that we learn of the passing today of Thomas F. Rogers, an emeritus professor of Russian at BYU and the author of an award-winning collection of essays in our Living Faith series, Let Your Hearts and Minds Expand: Reflections on Faith, Reason, Charity, and Beauty. Dr. Rogers was devoted to his large family and to the gospel of Jesus Christ, serving numerous callings, missions, and assignments, including as traveling patriarch in Eastern Europe. His work included essays, plays, and even paintings, all with a focus on the unifying and healing power of the gospel, especially in the face of profound adversity, injustice, and perplexity. He raised his voice for faith in times of doubt and for charity in place of prejudice. His legacy will continue in the generations of students whom he influenced, the wisdom of the writings he left to us, and in his family to whom we express our condolences and love.
