The Maxwell Institute is pleased to announce the appointment of two new full-time faculty fellows to start in 2025. Katharina Paxman (Philosophy) and Thomas Russell (Theatre and Media Arts) have been appointed by the university as the first two fellows to occupy these two-year rotational spots. Dr. Paxman specializes in Early Modern Philosophy. She has published extensively on the philosopher David Hume, and teaches courses in philosophy of mind, history of philosophy, applied ethics, and philosophy of religion. Professor Russell's work as director and writer of an extensive portfolio of feature film and media work has been recognized by festivals nationwide.

Dr. Paxman's residency at the Institute will focus on a book for Latter-day Saint readers that draws insights from her philosophical training to deepen faith. Professor Russell will complete a documentary film that examines the role of faith in present-day English communities. Professor Paxman’s writing projects and Professor Russell’s film projects will make significant contributions to the Maxwell Institute’s Latter-day Saint Discipleship and Interfaith Understanding initiatives.
We’re delighted to welcome them to the Maxwell Institute!
We anticipate opening our next call for applications for the second round of fellowships (with a start date of fall semester 2025) in the next few weeks.
