Kelly Patterson Appointed as a Maxwell Institute Faculty Fellow
Brigham Young University’s Academic Vice President Justin Collings has appointed Dr. Kelly Patterson as a Maxwell Institute Faculty Fellow, filling one of the Institute’s two-year rotating fellowships. His appointment will begin in September 2026.
Dr. Patterson is a professor of Political Science at BYU whose academic credentials include a B.A. from BYU and a Ph.D. in political science from Columbia University. His research interests include campaigns and elections, public opinion, political parties, and the philosophy of the social sciences.
His administrative and leadership roles include serving as Chair of BYU’s Department of Political Science, Director of the Center for the Study of Elections and Democracy, and Associate Dean in the College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences. Earlier in his career he worked on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. as a Congressional Fellow with the American Political Science Association.
At the Maxwell Institute, Dr. Patterson plans to work on a Latter-day Saint civic theology. We are delighted to welcome Dr. Kelly Patterson to the Maxwell Institute and look forward to his contributions.
