Artwork Highlight: Ancestors

Ancestors Art

Titled: When I Think Ghosts, I Think Ancestors

I’ve always looked forward to having some extra fun with spooky traditions around the fall season. As a kid ghouls and goblins definitely scared me, but I think growing out of that fear had a lot to do with the spiritual perspective I gained from having faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I started to learn that ghosts and spirits were practically the same thing as ancestors.

The Gospel informs us that usually spirits are not something to be afraid of, but rather, they are something to be loved. Many of the spirits in this world are our ancestors. They are living people whom we can communicate with. There is a place where they dwell and wait for us to join. They are actively working to help us progress. And the best part is that we can help them too.

This Gospel is unique in the way that we are encouraged to have a relationship with our ancestors. In temples we can do work in their place so they can move forward in the next life. In temples, we can feel their presence and hear their voices. In temples, spirits are more than just ghosts.
