Adam Miller to visit the Institute this summer as affiliate faculty

The Neal A. Maxwell Institute for Religious Scholarship is excited to announce a new addition to our roster of visiting scholars for 2019. Adam S. Miller will join us as an affiliate faculty member from June until August. Miller is a professor of philosophy at Collin College in McKinney, Texas, and author of a number of books including the Institute’s best-selling Living Faith book Letters to a Young Mormon and An Early Resurrection: Life In Christ Before You Die. Through books, articles, guest lectures, and oversight of the Mormon Theology Seminar, Miller has inspired a host of Latter-day Saint students and disciple-scholars.

Adam S. Miller on joining the Institute as affiliate faculty:
“Centered as my work is in the philosophy of religion, my scholarship has always been, for me, a form of discipleship. What I love most about the Maxwell Institute is that, under the direction of Spencer Fluhman, it has finally begun to fully embrace Elder Maxwell’s legacy by explicitly adopting a mission laser-focused on training and supporting this kind of disciple-scholarship. The Institute is poised, now, to have a substantial and unprecedented impact on the academy and, concomitantly, to move from reaching thousands of ordinary Latter-day Saints to blessing the lives of tens, and even hundreds, of thousands faithful members. Under Fluhman, the Institute is geared not only to an excavation of historical questions but to the more fundamental work of faithfully exploring and defending the depth and breadth of a lived experience of Christ.”During his stay at the Institute this summer Miller plans to work on a new theological book focused on two books within the Book of Mormon—Words of Mormon and Mormon—in addition to participating in brown bag discussions and other Institute events.
