Ravi M. Gupta is the Charles Redd Professor of Religious Studies at Utah State University and a Visiting Scholar at the Maxwell Institute during Fall 2020. He is the author or editor of four books, including an abridged translation (with Kenneth Valpey) of the Bhagavata Purana, one of India’s most beloved sacred texts in the Sanskrit language. Ravi holds a doctorate in Hindu Studies from Oxford University and has taught at the University of Florida, Centre College, and the College of William and Mary. He has received four teaching awards, a National Endowment for the Humanities summer fellowship, three research fellowships at Oxford, and a book award. He is a Permanent Research Fellow of the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies and a past president of the Society for Hindu-Christian Studies. He has published and lectured widely on topics related to Vaishnava bhakti (devotional) traditions, the Bhagavata Purana, interreligious dialogue, and the relationship between faith and scholarship. His current interests have drawn him to religion and ecology, as he attempts to think through the possibilities and challenges of a Hindu eco-theology.
