David D. Peck specializes in the history of the Middle East and Islamic Civilization. He is Professor of History at Brigham Young University-Idaho. He earned a PhD in history from the University of Utah (2003). Dr. Peck was a Fulbright-Nehru Visiting Lecturer at the University of Delhi (2010-2011). Drawing upon extensive conversations and interviews with Sufis of the South Asian-based Chishtiyya Sufi Order beginning in 2011, his research now includes the perspectives and teachings of Sufis from around the globe. He was a keynote speaker at the World Sufi Forum, held in New Delhi in March of 2016. Dr. Peck’s current research focuses on comparative theology, particularly shared concepts of pre-mortal existence and ontological progression found in Mormonism and Sufism. His publications include “Covenantal Pluralism in Mormonism and Islam: Alternatives to the Binary Logic of Apostasy” in Standing Apart: Mormon Historical Consciousness and the Concept of Apostasy (Oxford University Press, 2014).
