Claudia Jetter is a doctoral candidate in American Religious History at the Department of Theology at Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg in Germany. She studied English (Honors, Summa Cum Laude) and Protestant Theology (Honors, Magna Cum Laude) in her undergraduate and graduate work, taught German at a state boarding school in the UK, and earned a teaching degree in 2016. Her dissertation, which is supervised by Prof. Dr. Jan Stievermann, focuses on the emergence of charismatic prophets with new sacred writings in response to a perceived crisis of religious authority in the 1830s and 1840s.
Having successfully competed for a research position, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), Claudia now works as a graduate researcher in the interdisciplinary research project “Authority and Trust in American Culture, Society, History and Politics (GKAT)” at the Heidelberg Center for American Studies and acts as representative speaker of its graduate council.
