Brian M. Hauglid is an associate professor at Brigham Young University and a visiting fellow at the Maxwell Institute. He joined BYU’s ancient scripture faculty in 1999. Brian completed his PhD at the University of Utah in Arabic and Islamic studies in 1998. He has been a Nibley Fellow and he received the BYU Young Scholar award in 2006. He is a member of the Academic Advisory Board for Intermountain West Journal of Religious Studies. He is the former editor of the Journal of Book of Mormon Studies (2014-2017) and co-editor of Studies in the Bible and Antiquity.
An avid researcher on the Book of Abraham, Brian is a co-general editor (with John Gee) for the Studies in the Book of Abraham Series(Link), which has produced five volumes including Traditions about the Early Life of Abraham (2001); Astronomy, Papyrus, and Covenant (2005); and most recently A Textual History of the Book of Abraham: Manuscripts and Editions(2010). His research interests include the Book of Mormon, the Book of Abraham, the New Testament, Islamic studies, interfaith dialogue, temple studies, documentary editing, Christian history and theology, and LDS Church history.
Brian enjoys playing guitar, hiking, family beach vacations, and sci-fi movies. He is married to the former Tessa McNamara and has three daughters.
