Faulconer’s “Made Harder” books are a great resource for Sunday school teachers, Seminary and Institute instructors, missionaries, and other Latter-day Saints. Rather than interpreting the text for readers, these books are loaded with questions to inspire deeper and more personal thought. Faulconer's questions can improve your Sunday school lessons, sacrament meeting talks, family home evenings, or personal scripture study. Now Available: The New Testament Made Harder

May 01, 2015 12:00 AM
Last week I lent a copy of The New Testament Made Harder to another Sunday school teacher in my ward. I pointed out that the book follows the lessons from the Gospel Doctrine Sunday school manual. He thumbed through the book for a second and said, “Hey, The New Testament Made Harder is going to make my lesson prep so much easier!”We both laughed, but I knew he was right. The quality of the lessons I teach depends largely on how well I prepare during my own personal scripture study. My lessons go even better when students come prepared having already spent time thinking about the scriptures assigned for the week. James E. Faulconer’s entire MADE HARDER series was written to spur deeper and more focused engagement with Latter-day Saint scriptures.

Now available for pre-order: The New Testament Made Harder

April 08, 2015 12:00 AM
So much of modern life is geared toward finding faster and easier ways to do the same old things. The Made Harder series is proof that making things easier doesn’t always make them better—especially when it comes to our study of sacred scripture. This new series from Latter-day Saint philosopher James E. Faulconer raises many more questions than it answers…and that’s precisely the point!

Forthcoming book focuses on Mormonism, Islam, Buddhism

April 25, 2014 12:00 AM
James Faulconer is here to tell us about a forthcoming title from the Maxwell Institute called Postponing Heaven. The book compares the Book of Mormon’s Three Nephites to the Mahdî of Islam and Buddhism’s bodhisattva. These figures sacrifice their personal existence—not by dying, but by consecrating their existence to others in different ways. Faulconer, who holds the Richard L. Evans Chair of Religious Understanding at Brigham Young University, blogs at Patheos. He is author of the Maxwell Institute’s forthcoming “Made Harder” scripture series. —BHodges
